hello all, this is zoe. I am really liking this book. It really makes me think about life during WWII. The part i didnt get was when Willie was sleeping in the attic and he had to take down those blackouts.. But other than that the book is easy to fallow and very interesting. I like Mister Tom as a character. He has a kind heart and is very nice and loving to Willie. I am only on page 33, but i am excited to read more!! How are you guys liking it?

So far the book is a little confusing. What is going on with Willy? He seems so polite. But I thought he was abused or something. It must be hard living with a stranger who treats you badly. I wonder where this is going.

No, i think willie was bad so his mother beat him, but the person he is staying with (tom) is really nice to him.

I think this book is very different from others that I have read. The main character is named William, as you know, and he was abused by his mother. He says that his mom only gave him soft beatings, though I was disturbed that he got beatings at all. He is very afraid that Tom is going to beat him too, Tom is much larger than his mom. I think his he was taken from his mom, do you? His mom mislead him on a lot of things. She thought that dogs were disesase-spreading scum and that Willie was a very bad kid.

So far it is okay Zoe. I am not as far as some of the others might be, considdering I started the book yesterday evening. I find it confusing at times, but it really gives a feel of what life was like during WWII. Mr. Tom seems stange. I don't think he really has an idea of how to deal with an 8 year old boy. Although Willy is only 8, he certainly knows his manners!

Oh, and he doesnt want tom to figure out that he is actually a bad boy. But when tom got the letter from willies mother and tom found out.

I think that zoe is right. His mom beat him. I'm not as far in the book as you zoe, don't give parts avay!

So far, the book "Good night, Mr. Tom" has been very intresting. I think it's sad that so many kids had to be taken away from their familys so they could be safe.If i was put in to Willie's situation, I would be very upset because I was away from my family for so long. I would also be scared because I would be I would be living with someone I just met. When you think about World War 2, you don't really think about how many people were affected and killed for no reason, you think mostly about how the Germans nearly took over the world. I think that this book will hepl me understand what horrible things some people had to go through, even kids our age.

Yeah Maddi, he was either taken from his mom or probably, his mom might not have wanted him anymore. The lady who dropped Willy off at mr. tom's with the other children wasn't his mother correct? If not That lady must have saved Willy and brought him to have a better life.

i think willie wasnt taken, but given away because his mother couldnt take care of him.

Maddi said...

i think that the book is one that i wouldn't have chosen to read outside of school, but i will definitely learn something from it.

Zoeeee said...

the lady who dropped him off WAS his mother

Maddi said...

so i think he was taken forcefully from his mom.

Gabrielle said...

Aine, the lady at the door was not Willies mother. Willie was taken from his home not because he was aboused but because it wasnt safe where he was living so he was taken to another home so he could be safe from the war.

me two maddi

Gabrielle said...

wait zoe the lady that dropped him off WAS his mother?

Maddi said...

i don't think the woman who dropped him off was his mom.

Zoe said...

NO the lady at the door was his mother and she couldnt take care of him because she had a lot of other kids so she dropped him off at mr. toms so yeah..

Aine Dillane said...

I am so confused now. Beba says that the lady who dropped Willy off wasn't his mother but Zoe says that she was.

Maddi said...

at least, the book didn't say it was his mom.

Zoeee said...

Aine Dillane said...

Okay, so we are all officially saying that the lady who dropped off Willy is not his mother. Right?

gabrielle said...

ZZZZoe said...

and no the lady was not his mother it was this lady that took willie from his home to get him to a better place, but willies mother agreed with the other woman

Zoe said...

the lady at the door took willie from his home to get him to a better place, but willies real mother agreed.

Maddi said...

you could read the beginning again gabby.

maddi i think that the women was just a lady whos job it was to drop off children to their new houses

Aine Dillane said...

I think, Maddi, that the lady who dropped off Willy was some kind of person who takes in kids who need better homes, and try to send them. Kind of like a humane society for children only without having all the papers.

yes i think you are right aine
